A pitch deck is a short presentation used to attract investors, show what makes a company unique, and secure a follow-up meeting. It is a foot in the door, not a full explanation of the business.

  • Don’t try to cram technical details in or convince investors of the implementation. Leave that for a demo.
  • Follow Guy Kawasaki’s 10/20/30 rule: a pitch should have ten slides, last no more than twenty minutes, and contain no font smaller than thirty points. The same rule applies to any persuasive presentation, from fundraising to sales to partnerships.
  • Leave plenty of time for discussion.
